Tell us a little about yourself?
I’m Tom, a life-long cycling obsessive, adventure cyclist and photographer based in Bristol, UK.
How and when did you get into riding?
I started cycling like many people when I was taught by my parents at a very young age. I’ve always sought out adventure and loved the freedom and the physical feeling of riding a bike. Growing up in Oxford was a perfect place to get into cycling as the roads are so calm compared to many other cities. Bikes enabled me to be self sufficient and not have to rely on public transport. It’s way more fun too obvs.

What are the best and worst things about riding?
- Best things about cycling; Fun, fun, fun.
- Worst things; getting your bike stolen.
Tell us about your most memorable ride to date?
I think completing Atlas Mountain Race this year has to be my most memorable ride so far. It’s a 1300km bikepacking race through the Moroccan Atlas Mountains, to be completed in 8 days or less. The race took me to another world and into remote, high altitude areas populated by Berber communities and hidden Oases. It was the most amazing experience that I’ll never forget and has made me seek out more and more adventurous places to ride.

What’s the best piece of riding advice you’ve ever been given?
Drink high carb mix on rides. Absolute game changer.
How do you keep your bikes secure at home and on the go?
I’ve got a Omnium cargo bike with a emotor which I use for work and commuting. I have a wall anchor which I lock it to with my Litelok X1 and a CORE plus 125. I use both of these whilst out too. This combo will give would-be-thieves a serious headache to get through.

Share your best tips to help others keep their bikes safe?
Don’t take chances with your bike. Don’t leave it locked up outside for too long and especially not over night. Get an Air Tag or similar to track your bike if it gets stolen. Get a really good lock, or two.
When someone asks what kit you recommend, you say?
Tailfin bikepacking bags. Absolute best in the business. Carbon hardtail mountain bikes. Damn they’re fast! Ass Saver mudguards, seriously needed for UK winters. Redshift suspension components. Makes riding so much more comfy.

What’s on your riding bucket list?
I’ve applied to Silk Road Mountain Race next year. It’s a 2000km bikepacking race through the remote Tian Shan mountains in Kyrgyzstan. It will be the most challenging and epic thing I’ll have ever done and can’t wait to get out there.
