At 3am on the 11th of March, Chris was suddenly woken by a noise outside their home in The Hague, Netherlands. Moments later, it became clear what was happening: someone was tampering with their brand-new Gazelle Chamonix C7, a bike worth around €1000.
“Litelok X1 saves brand new Gazelle Chamonix C7 à €1000”
The bike was locked using only the LITELOK X1 and secured to a steel bar when a thief attempted to steal it in the early hours of the morning.
“There was a noise, we woke up, someone was tampering with the bike, with a wire cutter apparently, we shouted, the thief left.”
Although Chris was able to scare off the thief, the damage to the lock shows the LITELOK X1 was already doing its job. The attacker had only managed to partly penetrate the outer layer and had not reached the hardened metal core. Even if they had managed a full cut, the X1’s anti-rotation design means the lock cannot simply be twisted open. The thief would have needed to make two successful cuts, dramatically increasing the time and effort required.

The LITELOK X1 is permanently fused to a hardened fine-grain high-tensile steel core, which provides protection against all commonly used theft tools, including bolt croppers, cable cutters, long bars, hammers, and chisels. Wire cutters and other handheld tools simply cannot get through, and what the X range is popular for is the angle-grinder resistance, dramatically slowing down any determined attempt and making it far more likely the thief will be caught or give up entirely.
By dramatically slowing the attack and resisting the cutting attempt, the LITELOK X1 helped protect Chris’s brand-new bike and ensured the thief left empty-handed.
When discussing other success stories from The Hague in the Netherlands, Chris said:
“Good to see that there actually are locks that prevent this.”
For Chris, the experience reinforced the importance of using a lock designed to resist modern theft techniques, and showed how the LITELOK X1 can make all the difference when it matters most.
