On January 16th, in The Hague, Netherlands, one of our X1 locks did exactly what it was designed to do, stop a determined theft attempt in its tracks.
Chris had secured his bike in the parking garage of his apartment building, locking it carefully.

“Through a seat stay to a multi-space bike rack, in the parking garage of an apartment building.”
The bike itself was an attractive target.
“I have a second-hand, but new to me, e-bike. Although I bought it heavily discounted, brand new it's a €3,500 bike and good looking beast too.”
Chris was no stranger to security. In the past, he had relied on a well-known D-lock, but decided to step up his protection after learning about advancements in grinder resistance:
“The last heavy duty bike lock I bought was a thick D-lock with a big yellow crossbar (you know the one!). I bought an X1 after a reviewer said it was the next advancement in grinder resistance after my previous lock.”
Even then, choosing the X1 felt like going beyond what was necessary, until it wasn’t:
“I never even noticed an attack on my previous yellow beast so I bought an X1 thinking, ‘this is overkill, but I want to keep this bike’.”
Days later, the evidence told the real story. When Chris returned to his bike, the attack was impossible to miss:
“When I went to tinker with my bike this past weekend I found a good sized gash out of my X1 and immediately knew I'd spent good money on the lock!”
The lock bore the marks of a determined grinder attack, clear signs of repeated attempts and a final, failed cut near the crossbar:
“There's some cosmetic marks where the scoundrel first attempted to get through the shackle and a decent cut near the crossbar, stopping a little way into the steel.”
The bike, however, was untouched.

Only afterward did Chris see just how closely his experience mirrored real-world testing:
“It was only after finding this that I actually watched the various YouTube videos of an X1 eating grinder discs - I laughed,* hard*”
For us, this is what success looks like.
A lock that doesn’t just look tough, but proves it under attack.
A bike that stays exactly where it was left.
And a customer who now knows first-hand that “overkill” is sometimes the right call.
Because when the grinder comes out, there are no second chances.
