Every.Day.Ride #16 with Josh Reid

This winter, we had the opportunity to connect with Josh Reid, an ultra-distance adventure cyclist extraordinaire! Join us in this edition of Every Day Ride as we pedal into the captivating tales of Josh's epic bike explorations!

Tell us a little about yourself?

I’m an ultra-distance cyclist and a filmmaker. I have my own YouTube channel that I showcase my films of the races and adventures I go on. Most notably the video I produced of my cycle home to the U.K. from the Giant factory in Shanghai.

How and when did you get into riding?

With bike-mad parents, I basically grew up on the bike. My first proper bicycle tour on my own bike was a trip to Luxembourg with my dad when I was 7.

What are the best and worst things about riding?

The best thing is definitely the freedom you get on a bike, it can take you to a lot further than you think. The worst thing I suppose would be a puncture but they seem to be few and far between with good quality tyres.

Tell us about your most memorable ride to date?

Cycling home to the U.K. from China if you class that as a ride but if you break that down I’d say the day on the Pamir highway where I crossed from Kyrgyzstan into Tajikistan. I slept in no mans land and woke up pretty cold and started the day sprinting up a climb just to warm my toes up.

What’s the best piece of riding advice you’ve ever been given?

The best riding advice I’ve been given would be to make sure you’re eating little and often.

What do you bring with you on every ride?

I always carry a pump, Allen keys, tyre levers, pliers, a tube, a little food and my phone.

How do you keep your bikes secure at home and on the go? Share your best tips to help others keep their bikes safe.

I keep the bikes inside the house currently and when I’m back at my parents place they are locked in the garage to anchors bolted to the floor due to a previous break in. Then if I’m ever leaving my bike unattended outside I use a LITELOK X1 through the frame and the front wheel.

When someone asks what kit you recommend, you say?

I find that most recently the item I’ve recommended the most has been the Restrap boot kit.

What’s on your riding bucket list?

I’d love to bike tour around Bolivia. It looks incredible.
