At LITELOK, we’re committed to providing the highest level of bike security. But nothing speaks louder than real-world stories from riders who’ve faced the worst—and came out victorious. This is one such story, shared by Odette, whose LITELOK X1 stood between her beloved €3900 bike and a determined thief.
Odette recently reached out to us to recount a harrowing experience at Spaarnwoude station in Haarlem, where an attempted theft could have ended very differently—were it not for her choice in bike security:
“I am a satisfied owner of a Litelok X1 lock, which I purchased because of its reputation for high security and reliability. Unfortunately, my lock has recently become the target of a theft attempt.”
The bike was attached to a bike rack and in addition to the Litelok X1 lock, there was also a 120 cm Abus chain lock on it.
On June 16, 2025, someone tried to steal Odette’s bike using a power tool no cyclist wants to hear about—an angle grinder. Despite this aggressive attempt, her bike was still there when she returned:
“On June 16, 2025, someone tried to steal my bike at Spaarnwoude station in Haarlem, using an angle grinder. To my relief, my Litelok X1 was able to withstand this brutal attempt and effectively protect my bike.”
“When I returned to my bike, I saw that an attempt had been made with an angle grinder to cut through the Litelok X1 lock. The lock was almost completely cut on one side, but fortunately managed to prevent the theft.”
Although the thieves managed a deep cut on one side of the X1, it wasn’t enough. The design of the LITELOK X1 meant they would have needed to make a second full cut—twice the time, and double the gear, discs, and battery life. That’s a barrier most thieves simply aren’t equipped to overcome.
This story serves as a powerful reminder: not all locks are created equal. When it counts, having the right gear can be the difference between losing your bike and riding it home.
Thank you, Odette, for sharing your story—and we’re proud that the LITELOK X1 lived up to its reputation when it mattered most.
