In the early hours of Saturday 3rd January 2026, at 02:35 AM, a professional and determined theft attempt was made on Kris's motorcycle in Newcastle. What the thieves didn’t expect was that one final security choice would stop them completely.
That choice was a LITELOK X3.
The Bike Targeted
As Kris mentions, the motorcycle was barely broken in and highly desirable:
“Honda Africa twin. Brand new 600 miles on. Value £21000”
A new Africa Twin at that value is exactly the kind of bike organised thieves look for, especially when they’re operating at night with tools and time.

This wasn’t a casual or opportunistic crime. The thieves came prepared and systematic.
First, they breached the property:
“5 lifting up automatic electric garage door.”
Once inside, they went straight for the bike’s primary chain security:
“4 Oxford chain cut off.”
At this point, many thefts would be over. The bike would be lifted or wheeled away and gone within minutes.
But this time, there was one more obstacle.
Where the LITELOK X3 Made the Difference
Kris had secured the bike with a LITELOK through the front wheel, specifically to prevent it from being rolled or lifted easily:
“Litelok through front wheel to immobilise front wheel.”
After cutting through the Oxford lock and removing it from the bike, the thieves turned their attention to the LITELOK.
They tried.
And then they stopped.
“Tried cutting through litelok and gave up.”
That moment changed everything.
Unable to defeat the LITELOK X3, and unable to move the bike, the thieves abandoned the attempt entirely.
The Outcome
The result was simple.
“the litelok saved the bike.”
A £21,000 motorcycle with just 600 miles on the clock remained exactly where it was, because one lock proved too much effort, too much noise, and too much risk.
This incident highlights a reality of modern motorcycle theft:
- Thieves expect to cut chains
- They plan to defeat common locks
- They rely on speed and certainty
When that certainty disappears, so do they.
The LITELOK X3 didn’t just slow the thieves down, it ended the theft attempt.
For Kris, that meant waking up to a motorcycle still ready to ride.
And for everyone else, it’s a real-world reminder that the right security can make all the difference when it matters most.
